Tsunami Crisis Management Team Rehabilitation Plans

A Tsunami Crisis Management Team was constituted with Tr, Shivkumar Eashwaran - NST leading the way. TCMT has been very successful in reaching out to the deserving needy and with the active support extended by Government authorities and Police officials, our relief materials like medicines, mineral water, clothes, milk powder, bed sheets, blankets, rice, dal, biscuits, rusk, vessels, mats etc reached the needy people in time. We reached out to places like Port Nova, in the outskirts of Cudallore, even before the governmental relief was in. The Team visited the Velankanni shrine & sea shore and saw the damages that was created by the waves. The team then went to Kallar village and inspected the damages

Now is the time to look at our long time commitment and we pledge to the government that we shall take up relief operations in the sector, we have our core competence in Building Schools.

Round Table India's works with Tamilnadu Govt... Round Table India has been recognised by Govt. of Tamil Nadu as one of the 8 Non Governmental Organisations taking up rehabilitation work in Tsunami affected areas .Thereafter the Govt gave us the list of primary schools which needs complete reconstruction / major repairs / minor repairs. These schools total upto 158. We have recieved copies of the Govt. Orders from the Special Commissioners office to all the 10 District Collectors (of the Areas effected by the Tsunami). The letter is very explicit that Round Table India will be undertaking the building of the schools and also be responsible for the project execution and implementation. Please find the scanned copies of 10 Letters from OSD to DCs of 10 Districts for the Tsunami Primary Schools order.

Tr. Sakthivel Raja (RT 100) has been appointed as National Convenor - Tsunami Projects.

From the list of 158 schools which was assigned to us by the State Govt. of Tamil Nadu, after physical inspection, we found that a few schools had very minor damages and a few others in villages which the Govt. is contemplating to "relocate" thereby rebuilding those schools is not needed now. So, after dropping those schools, the list now stands pruned to 108 which Round Table India is taking up for rebuilding in the 1st phase. The physical estimates for the  schools in the Tsunami affected areas were completed, project reports are finalised and handed over to the respective District Collectors. Final meetings were held with the District Collectors and the Education officers of the concerned Districts (Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Villupuram and Nagapattinam) has been completed. We have also signed a Memorandum of understanding with Cuddalore District & Villupuram District Collector and the MOU has been received at our end, where in work is now commencing in 56 schools.

Our members, alongwith certified engineers and contractors, will be doing a rece of the schools and we will then have a correct estimate in hand, but as of now we estimate the amount to be well over Rs. 50 Million (US$ 1.14 Million).

These photos were taken by our tabler Tr.Nehru, RT104 who had visited the schools to get us the Preliminary estimate of the schools to be rebuilt.
